Wildtruthenne mit Jungen

Audubon: Die Vögel Amerikas I, 1827

This is a painting of a wild turkey hen with her young. The scene depicts a large, richly colored female turkey with a flock of her poults. The female turkey has a striking plumage with shades of brown, rust, and a hint of iridescent greens. Her extended tail feathers and poised posture suggest attentiveness. The young turkeys are scattered around her, moving through a lush meadow filled with grasses and green foliage. The background is adorned with plants and wildflowers.
