Polaire

Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, 1897

The image depicts a woman's partial upper body view. Her head is tilted backward and her gaze is directed upward and away from the viewer. She has heavy-lidded eyes, pronounced lips, and a sharp nose. The woman has short hair, possibly cropped or styled voluminously. She is wearing a garment around her shoulders, possibly a shawl, and holding a fan in her left hand. The background has a soft, uneven texture blending the figure into the surroundings.
