Lesendes junges Mädchen

Pierre-Auguste Renoir, um 1888

This painting displays a side profile of a young child, with their head turned to the left. The child has soft facial features, pale skin, rosy cheeks, and light brown hair styled in a bun. They are wearing a white garment that drapes off their shoulders. They appear to be carried in the arm of a figure on the left whose face we can't see. There is the suggestion of another figure on the right side, and the background is a gray-blue color. The paint has been applied thickly with large brushstrokes, giving the scene a blurred quality and obscuring small details.
