Sandro Botticelli

1446–1510, Italy (Florence), Early Renaissance

Botticelli worked for the Medici and shaped 15th-century Florence with graceful lines and luminous tempera painting. Besides religious scenes, he painted portraits of Florentine society – among them Giuliano de’ Medici.
