Room 91
Jacques Callot
1592–1635, Lorraine (Nancy), Italy (Florence), Baroque
Callot trained in Florence at the Medici court and returned to Nancy as a celebrated etcher. A new, hard etching ground let him draw tiny figures with razor-sharp precision: festivals, tournaments, theatre, beggars and jugglers, entire sieges seen from above. His prints are full of life and astonishingly small.
