Eugène Delacroix
1798–1863, France (Paris), North Africa, Romanticism
Delacroix was the leader of French Romanticism. He painted passion and movement: fighting horsemen, tigers and lions, scenes from Shakespeare, Byron and Goethe. A journey to Morocco and Algeria in 1832 transformed his colour. His lithographs for “Faust” and his animal studies are among the masterpieces of printmaking.
