Childe Hassam
1859–1935, USA (Boston, New York, Isles of Shoals), American Impressionism
Hassam discovered Impressionism in Paris and brought it to America. He painted life on the streets of Boston and New York in rain, snow and flag parades, the gardens of the poet Celia Thaxter on the Isles of Shoals and the coasts of New England. In his late etchings he captured houses, harbours and trees with just a few lines.
