Winslow Homer
1836–1910, USA, Realism
Homer began as an illustrator for magazines and reported from the American Civil War. Afterwards he painted children in the countryside, sailing boats in the wind and, again and again, the sea, which he watched from his studio on the coast of Maine. His paintings look simple but are precisely composed and full of light.
