Pierre-Auguste Renoir
1841–1919, France (Limoges, Paris), Impressionism
Renoir started out as a porcelain painter in Limoges and became one of the founders of Impressionism. He painted the joy of life: people dancing and rowing on the Seine, children, flowers and patches of sunlight on skin and fabric. In old age he kept painting despite severe arthritis, with the brush tied to his hand.
