Room 186
Vincent van Gogh
1853–1890, Netherlands, Post-Impressionism
In barely ten years, Van Gogh painted more than 800 paintings. His thick, rhythmic brushstrokes and bold complementary colours – cobalt blue against chrome yellow – made light and feeling visible. Most of the works in this room were painted in Arles, Saint-Rémy and Auvers during the last three years of his life.
