Weary Wayfarers

Französische Malerei 1881–1890, 1888

The artwork depicts a pastoral scene with a muted and earthy color palette. Closest to us, two travelers rest on a grassy expanse. One figure is reclining on the ground, while another sits upright, wrapped in a shawl. Beyond them, the horizon is low, revealing a vast landscape that stretches into the distance. A thatched-roof cottage is situated towards the center right, accompanied by a haystack further beyond. The sky occupies a significant portion of the canvas, painted in soft, dusty hues of orange and brown. The brushstrokes are smooth and blended.
