Amerikanische Malerei 1890–1901, c. 1890

The artwork titled "The Exhumation" depicts a scene set near a body of water. Closest to us, a group of individuals is gathered around a grave, with a woman lying down and a man bending over. Another woman gestures. A horse-drawn carriage is present to the left, with the horse standing. The landscape features trees on both sides, with the right side dominated by a large tree with autumnal foliage. The horizon is placed high, showcasing a lake with sailboats.
