Marion Feasting the British Officer on Sweet Potatoes

Amerikanische Malerei 1840–1848, 1848

The image shows two men in military attire sitting on a log, with one smoking a pipe. A log cabin is visible towards the right, with two men leaning against a fence and another tending to a horse. The horizon is low in the composition with trees meeting a light sky. The lighting suggests late afternoon. The brushstrokes vary in style, delineating figures and trees. The color palette is warm and earthy, with greens, browns, and hints of red and blue from the uniforms against the sky. The sky transitions from blue to a golden hue towards the center, providing a serene backdrop.
