Elihu Vedder, c. 1887

The image shows a landscape with a rugged terrain. The horizon is near the top of the composition, with distant mountains under an overcast sky. Delicate, sketch-like brushstrokes create a soft texture on boulders and vegetation. The color palette includes browns, beiges, greens, and muted blues. Large rocks, sparse vegetation, and a small building with a slanted roof are in the foreground. Ancient-looking structures are visible in the distance on the horizon.
