German Joust of Peace

Ritterturniere um 1512, circa 1512–1515

The image shows two armored figures jousting on horseback. Both knights are engaged in a dynamic joust, each in full armor and mounted on horses with decorative caparisons. One knight appears to be falling backward, possibly unseated by the impact of the opponent’s lance, which is visibly bent. The horses have different-colored draped cloths – one is dark brown, and the other is golden with intricate designs. The knights wear typical medieval armor and helmets.
