Saint John Dictating to the Venerable Bede

Deutsche Grafik 1250–1460, circa 1140

The artwork depicts two figures seated within a medieval architectural setting. On the left, a haloed figure is shown seated with most of his body visible. He has short hair and a beard, and he is dressed in flowing robes, predominantly in shades of green. His right hand is raised to his chin, while his left hand gestures towards the other figure. On the right, another figure is seated on an ornate chair, writing with a quill on a manuscript placed on a small table. This figure also has short hair and a beard and is dressed in a light-colored robe. Above them, there is a structure resembling a city gate or archway, with towers on either side and a bird or dove descending from above. The background features intricate patterns and a mix of green and red hues.
