Eucephala smaragdocaerulea (Gould's Wood Nymph)

John Gould,

This is a painting of three hummingbirds interacting with pink bell-shaped flowers on a vine. The painting shows two hummingbirds perched on a curved stem amidst green leaves, while a third hummingbird hovers in mid-air, feeding on the nectar of one of the blossoms. The hummingbirds have green and blue feathers contrasting with the pink flowers and pastel background. The style is reminiscent of John James Audubon, with detailed and realistic representation typical of classical ornithological illustrations.
