Kitagawa Utamaro

Kitagawa Utamaro ist der Meister der „Bilder schöner Frauen“. Er zeigte sie in großen Brustbildern, die ihre Stimmungen und Gesten ganz nah heranholen, aber auch beim Wäscheaufhängen, beim Fischen am Strand oder beim abendlichen Spaziergang an der Ryōgoku-Brücke. Daneben schuf er Folgen nach dem berühmten Theaterstück Chūshingura über die 47 treuen Samurai.
