Draped Figure, Reclining

James McNeill Whistler, 1892

The image shows a person reclining on a sofa. They are depicted from head to lower legs, with their body leaning back against the cushions and legs extended outward. The person's facial features are lightly sketched, with a calm expression and a small, rounded face. Their hair is dark and covered by a yellow hat or cap. They are dressed in a long, flowing yellow garment and holding a scroll or fabric with green details. There are cushions around them, one with green spots. The background features light pastel shades with green and orange, suggesting a wall decoration. Small decorative elements are present in the composition. The artwork has a light and delicate quality.
