The Virgin and Child Adored by Frederic the Wise of Saxony

Lucas Cranach der Ältere,

The image depicts three figures: an adult woman, an infant, and an adult man. The woman is seated and looking downwards, wearing a headscarf with a floral design. She holds the infant, who has curly hair and is relaxed, grasping an object. The man, positioned to the right, wears richly textured garments with a fur collar and offers a gesture of prayer or respect. The background shows hills, trees, and buildings in a distant landscape through a window. Above is a depiction of clouds with an ornamental motif. A small decorative box is in the foreground, suggesting an indoor setting.
